Since the publication of our inaugural issue of
eCOMMUNIQUE,
I've only received a handful of acknowledgment from our members. Makes
me wonder if this newsletter is actually getting through to members. I
would like to make the request again; please
acknowledge receipt of this newsletter. I've made it really easy this time,
read on and you'll see how.
I received a few comments on the color. Some
said the color combination is poor. Well, I've checked on it and discovered
that different settings on different computers, as well as different email
programs, will give different results. I will try my best to get a suitable
color combination by testing on various computers but this will take a
while, so for the time being please bear with it. Why not let me know if
the color combination is OK for you in your acknowledgment of this issue
of eCOMMUNIQUE
? I will appreciate greatly your feedback on this. Do it now, click
on one of the following and then click Send, its that simple (of
course, you can include some comments too while you are doing it) :
mailto:yst@post.com?subject=ColorIsOK
< click this, if the color is OK for you
mailto:yst@post.com?subject=ColorIsNotOK
< click this, if the color is NOT OK
for you
Meanwhile enjoy the eCOMMUNIQUE.
PPJCYST-ED2001
Greetings to all KLJC members
Time waits for no man and like it or not, we’re half way into the second month of the year. Different people would have achieved different results in that one and a half months alone. What about you, I ask. Have you drafted out your plans for this year? Have you laid down the action steps that will clearly bring you towards your goals? How are you doing so far?
One lesson in life I’ve learnt quite some time ago and never fail to follow is – Don’t regret what has past for it will never come back again and never dream too much about the future for it has not come yet. But be aware of what you can do for now to the best of your abilities for it is the NOW that will make the difference in your life.
I believe we are all born winners in life thus we are also born leaders while we live. We shall cultivate that innate qualities within us as we live our life day by day.
My Presidential Theme for 2001 is ‘Making Things Happen The Jaycees Way’. So what is the Jaycees way? To me, Jaycees is synonymous to an Open University that provides the biggest platform to become what we want to be. It provides the cheapest form of education yet the most valuable, customized to our individual needs. It has the widest syllabus specially designed for each and every one of us as we grow over time. So what is it? Pay attention everyone;
a) Learn by doing/participation to gain experience/knowledge;
b) achievement through practice to gain skills; and
c) reap results in action by way of good attitude.
The aggregation of all the above equals the habit of a good (New Generation of) leader.
All of you have enrolled in this coveted University at different times. Some may have progressed further than the rest. Some may have made things happen, some may have seen things happen while there are also some who do not know what has happen. Only YOU know best where you belong.
Regardless of where you are, now is the time to come forward and surge ahead towards your life goals. Gain the habits of a good leader and leave your foot steps for others to follow. Graduation is awaiting you at the other end of the bridge, which I assure is never stationery. The longer you wait the further it will move away from you, because your fellow colleagues will make sure it doesn’t stay at the same place. As the people around you progresses, with you doing nothing will mean you are falling behind and very soon into oblivion.
This year will be an exciting one for KLJC, I assure you. My BOD and I have been working tirelessly to re-strategize in an attempt to add value to this organization. However, we are only a small part of the organization. You, the members of KLJC are the main component of the organization. Without your participation, we can only do so much. Please come forward and achieve greater heights together!! Anyhow, I am very honoured to share with all of you the following;
Our Vision : To stir the people towards the establishment of a permanent and everlasting world peace.
Our Mission: To contribute to the development of k-workers of the Malaysian economy by providing the opportunity for people between the ages of 18-40 to develop leadership skills, social responsibility, entrepreneurship & fellowship necessary to create positive change.
Our Values :
We believe that faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life
That the brotherhood of man transcends through the sovereignty of nations
That economic justice can best be won by free man through free enterprise
That government should be of laws rather than of men
That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality
And that service to humanity is the best work of life
Our Beliefs : That all human beings can be developed; that all are equal; that the world is interdependent; that the world does not belong to man but that man belong to the world; that every man is a citizen of the world.
I urge every KLJC member to spend some time perusing the four key qualities carefully as described above. The reason being that, from now on the organization will be re-shaped based on those qualities and the eventual impact is that it will differ from the current state quite drastically.
Having said that, I now reveal to you my immediate priorities and I, together with my BOD members would like to see more participation from you as we believe in sharing of ownership. Be part of the team who made things happen and perhaps one day you could tell your children as you and your family is strolling the streets, that you were part of the team that made this place a better place to live in!!
My immediate priorities
1. To provide opportunities for career (CSD) & entrepreneurial
(ESD) skills training
2. To provide job placement assistance to members
3. To create consistent income stream for the chapter
4. To conduct membership recruitment exercises at regular intervals
5. To provide effective means of information dissemination & communication
I’d like to leave you with the following adage and hope that your dreams will come true one day through the Jaycees way;
Regards,
JC MURPHY LUM

KL Mandarin 1st Installation Banquet
Yours truly attended our LOM extension's charter nite at the Istana
Hotel on 17 February. I was proud to report KLJC's delegates numbered 19
attendees.
I thought I wandered into a mini China function, many China clad ladies complete with ye ole China garbs, hair and makeup. Their male members complemented in Chinese high neck suits. Yeah, it was an Oriental nite affair and understandably, Mandarin was the major language utilised that nite.
'Banana people' like me, well, I coped and survived. I enjoyed the song performances, though the other attendees probably enjoyed and understand them better judging from their vigorous applause and response. I must say though for an oriental dinner, it was a very civilised affair - no rowdy 'Yam Sengs'. Thumbs up to the organising committee for maintaining the nite's order and programme.
Congratulations on a well organised installation and more power to JCKL Mandarin in the Jaycees road ahead!

Fred has a fantastic ability to remember names, helped by his plan of
writing everyone's name down on a little card with some pertinent fact
about them. When we lived in Connecticut, we had a Popular Sanguine (Popular
Sanguine is a personality type described in the book Personality Plus)
pastor named Don who couldn't remember one parishioner from another. Fred
helped him out by standing next to him at the door on Sunday morning and
giving him instant biographies under his breath as each unfamiliar person
approached.
"This lady in the pink dress is Walda Worry. She has six children and
her husband's in the hospital with back trouble"
"Walda, dear, you looked lovely in pink! How are those adorable little
children? And how's your poor husband's back coming along?"
Fred fed the facts; Don did the decorating.
After we left Connecticut, Don's memory had an instant retreat, and
people wondered why his charming concern had turned into a desperate grasping
for names. One day he asked a lady how her husband was feeling when, in
fact, he had just conducted the poor man's funeral two days before.

The R.S.V.P.
R.S.V.P. stands for "Repondez s'il vous plait". This translates from
the French as "Respond if you please". (And if you don't, you may not
get invited again-at least to my house) A social invitation requires
a response. That's all there is to it.
R.S.V.P.s for business events, meetings and association luncheons(functions)
are a bit different. The expectation is that you will pre-register and
pre-pay or call in a reservation. And you are expected to attend if you
reserve! You generally do not have to call to say you won't be able to
attend unless you've already responded and committed to being there.
It's not nice to be a "drop-in". I have attended many luncheons where
too many "busy" people (much too busy to bother calling in a reservation)
showed up at the door at the last minute. The food count was thrown way
off balance - and so was the luncheon's chairperson! Leftovers for an army
or worse, a shortage of shrimp puffs (curry puffs, in Malaysian context)
is every host's nightmare.
If you find out at the last minute that you'll be able to attend after
all, at least call the morning of the event to let them know you're coming.
To R.S.V.P. shows good manners, considerations, breeding and respect.
